YUZU

A force of nature

Citrus junos is the botanical name of Yuzu.

The name “yuzu” designates both the fruit and the tree which was obtained by crossing a wild mandarin and a lemon.  It grows wild in central China and in Tibet. It is also an emblematic citrus fruit in Japan, where it has been imported for thousands of years.

The Yuzu tree can reach 4 meters in height. It is thorny and can withstand cold temperatures as low as -5°C.

The fruit is the size of an orange with a thick and irregular rind that is initially green and turns yellow as it matures. The pulp is not very juicy, and the taste is acid but sweet.

Yuzu, a fruit with a thousand virtues for the skin

PURIFYING: Yuzu inhibits the proliferation of multiple micro-organisms: gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria, yeast and fungi. Yuzu extract thus helps purify the skin.

ANTIOXIDANT*: Yuzu is extremely rich in phenolic compounds such as phenolic acids, flavonoids or tannins, and vitamin C, which are powerful antioxidant compounds.

REFRESHING*: Like all citrus fruits, Yuzu is known for its refreshing and invigorating effects due to its organic acid content.

Where does the Yuzu selected by SO’BiO étic come from®?

SO’BiO étic® has selected an organic and fair-trade supply chain from a 100% French family farm that practices agroecology.

Yuzu is rarely grown in France, yet it has acclimated very well to the area where this family farm is located in the Ardeche region.

Aromatic and medicinal plants (such as verbena, passionflower, or geranium) chosen to work in a symbiosis with the Yuzus, have been planted at the foot of the trees.

Yuzu fruits are hand-picked once a year, in October and November, when they are ripe.
